Some of the known kung fu styles are inspired by the behavior of certain animals. These include monkey, white crane, praying mantis, etc. The Praying-Mantis and Long Fist style are the two basic styles of this course.

Praying-Mantis style Introduction

The storm-like fighting style with three-dimensional triangle-shaped movements. It was inspired by the preying movement of praying mantis which is famous for its explosive power and continuous attacks.
The most distinctive feature of Mantis boxing is the “mantis hook”: a hook shape made of the fingers plus wrist and forearm that moves in a whip-like manner to imitate the mantis arm. The hook may be used to divert force (blocking) or to attack critical spots (eyes, temple, etc.). These are particularly useful in combination, for example using the force imparted from a block to power an attack. Feet and legs are also used to form the hook-like shape and mainly used to hook opponent’s ankle and destroy his balance during combat.  The common tactic is to make use of its swift and fierce movement, storm close to competitor and attack the vital spots, ambush by leg “mantis hook” to beat down the competitor or leave him effectively no time to defend.
